"Having Patrick at our wedding was the best decision we made throughout the entire planning process. His talent is unbeatable and our guests have not stopped talking about how perfectly his music fit within our day. He went above and beyond to make our wedding magical, including playing "Moonlight in Vermont" timed perfectly with the moon rising over the ridge in the distance... Worth every penny. Thank you, Patrick!."

My husband and I married this past July. Two summers before we married, we were guests at several friends and family members weddings (we’re at that age where you have nine weddings in one summer). This gave us a chance to really pick and choose things we definitely wanted, and definitely didn’t for our big day. We truly didn’t consider one dj, or band until we were at my cousins wedding in late July 2021 where Patrick was the “Dj” I say this in quotes because he was much more then just a Dj. He played ceremony and cocktail music on his violin, however we truly lost our minds when he started playing along on his instrument as we were dancing at the reception. I remember my cousins friends from Montana and Colorado asking how they could make sure Patrick was the dj to every wedding they went to here on out! My husband and I both felt that this was the most important vendor we booked-and we didn’t spend a minute after that day looking anywhere else, we knew we wanted Patrick! Two years later on our wedding day we absolutely knew we made the best decision. We sent Patrick two different songs that he quickly learned for our wedding party, as well as myself and father to walk down the aisle to. Today, our friends and family continue to talk about the music and the “guy with the violin” that played on our wedding day.

Pat played at our ceremony and reception this June (2023). It was absolutely amazing and more than we could have asked for. Pat’s professional, warm and approachable. He checked in with us many times leading up to the event and while my husband and I are quite disorganized, Pat really helped us pull it all together. He played with two other fellas who were equally as talented and wonderful. He even stayed for a bit after to jam by the fire with our friends. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to have great music and friendly faces at their event. You will not regret it!!! In fact- they’ll exceed your expectations.

Patrick is wonderful musician!! He really made our backyard wedding special. When our guests arrived, through the ceremony, and into cocktail hour he added just the right ambiance. During dinner and dancing he curated great music for the vibe of the event. We were looking forward to the dance section with friends and family and gave him a sense of the type of music we were looking for. He picked up our tastes just right with the list and added so much with his accompaniment from fiddle to guitar. There were always people on the floor dancing and Patrick balanced our taste with a perfect read of the room.
After the formal wedding was over, our dads picked up their guitars for some late night jam session with the guests. Patrick was packing up but impromptu joined in for the with his fiddle. It was great to watch him get excited about the music and jam it up with them!

“Patrick was a true gem to find to play at our wedding. He came highly recommended by our wedding venue and after we chatted with him and saw a couple of his videos, we booked him! He is incredibly talented (and super humble). Patrick played our ceremony, including playing my requested song, his rendition of “Rise” by Eddie Vedder on violin as I walked down the aisle, and fiddled everyone down the hill to cocktail hour. We also hired a guitar player, a friend of Patrick’s, to play with him for our cocktail hour and then Patrick DJ’d the night away for the reception. It was incredible, but especially when he fiddled along with the music. Our guests on the dance floor were in awe and stopped to watch him in the balcony. Guests came in from the bar to hear him play. It was so magical. Everyone has not stopped talking about how amazing that was. Patrick was one of the most easy going vendors we worked with for our wedding, a true professional and master of the fiddle for sure! Patrick was flexible, and when I had to make the call to have the ceremony outside when it was pouring rain, he was willing to still play outside with an umbrella. We are so happy we selected him and that he was able to work with us. I would highly recommend him!” -Amber C -2021-
“I have had the wonderful pleasure working with Patrick Ross! He is extremely easy to work with and so talented. I’m a wedding coordinator in the NEK and have worked many weddings with him.. alhren barn, chapel on darling hill, etc. He is not only a DJ but a professional musician and provides music for Ceremony, cocktail hour dinner and full service DJ.” – Jennifer Kirchoff Layn 2020
We had Patrick play at our wedding and would highly recommend him. He worked with us to create musical score for the entire day -- from the walk down the aisle to the cocktail hour to our fist dance. Patrick was very easy to work with and very thoughtful in his approach to incorporate different styles of music throughout the day. His talent as a musician and DJ are undeniable, but he's also a great guy, and we very much enjoyed working with him. We'd highly recommend him for a wedding or any other event that needs great music!

Testimonials from couples:

Ceremony:
I start playing ambient violin 20-30 before the ceremony takes place as people are gathering. I am a fifth generation violinist. The violin music that I play during that time is a blend of classical and folk. I help create a romantic mood as I read the room. Unless you have a specific selection in mind for the wedding party, I usually continue playing without any change in the music as the wedding party walks down. (if you even plan to have a wedding party) Once the last person has walked, then I pause for a few seconds before going into your chosen selection. If there is a song in any genre that has special significance to one or both of you, I can learn it and develop a recognizable violin rendition of it.
Cocktail/Social Hour:
I read the room and switch between mandolin, guitar, cello, fiddle, banjo and ukulele. Unless there is a certain selection you would like to hear, I play ambient instrumental music at a volume that allows guests to mingle without having to speak over the music. Some couples enjoy the option of having me play those instruments over subtle drum and bass grooves. A lounge sound which caters to all ages.
Transition to Dinner
(***Option A): if you prefer that there be a formal introduction, i.e. "Please join me in welcoming Mr. & Mrs..."This is a good place to have your first dance and save mother/son and father daughter for after dinner.
Dinner:
I usually play music from a playlist. The right volume is most important. Enough to add a sparkle in the air.
Speeches:
I will facilitate this with my wireless mic. Especially helpful if I have a list of names of those who will speak. I won't hand the mic over to just anyone.
First Dances:
This most usually happens between dessert and the dancing party. My preferred way of lining this up is like this:
1.Father/Daughter
2.Mother/Son
3.Married Couple First Dance
(***Option B.) By having the married couple go last, it provides the option of me inviting everybody to join in the first dance toward the end. Then everyone is on the dance floor for when the beat drops. That's when the fun begins!
I encourage couples to send me 3 lists:
1.Must play
2.Play it if it feels right
3.Do not play
Some couples don't send a list and tell me to do whatever feels right. I have worked literally 100's and 100's of weddings. On average, most relatives leave around 9pm. Until then, I'll lean toward Motown, 70's and 80's. After 9pm is when things open up a bit more. So much depends on reading the dance floor. Because I am a trained musician, as a solo DJ I occasionally blend in and play my electric guitar or fiddle along with certain songs. It offers a unique touch that (as you can tell by my reviews) goes over very well.
If you hire me with my live rhythm section (drum & bass)The band will be ready at all times. We blend in our live instruments on certain songs that people don't want to stop dancing to, fading out the DJ track and playing a type of extended version of the track in our own way. A seamless blend between DJ and live band. Very danceable. Very fun.
My day rate is $x,xxx plus $2 per mile round trip from Newbury, VT which includes everything mentioned above.
Optional drummer and bassist are add ons at $xxx/per.
I think I covered everything...
Please don't hesitate with any questions.
I'd be glad to schedule a phone call to go over any questions if you'd like.
When an event calls for live background music, hiring the right musician is important. A musician who can read the mood of the event and elevate the atmosphere without drawing all the attention is the right musician. This playlist is but one example of a music landscape offered by Patrick Ross.
